The short version
Emma is a supportive companion for people living with glaucoma — not a doctor, and not a medical device. She gives you general information and helps you keep track of your eye care, but she never gives personalised medical advice and never replaces your own eye-care team.
By using Emma, you agree to these terms. Please read the Medical Disclaimer in Section 2 carefully — it matters for your safety.
1. About these terms
These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and R.Tej Health Analytics Private Limited ("R-Tej", "we", "us"), the publisher of the Emma mobile application ("Emma" or the "app"). They govern your access to and use of the app.
By downloading, installing, or using Emma, you confirm that you accept these Terms and agree to comply with them. If you do not agree, please do not use the app. Your use of Emma is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
Your use of the app is additionally subject to the terms of the app store from which you downloaded it (Apple's App Store or Google Play). Where those store terms conflict with these Terms in relation to the store's own role, the store terms prevail for that purpose.
2. Medical disclaimer — please read carefully
Emma does not provide medical advice.
Emma offers general information about glaucoma and eye health for educational and supportive purposes only. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and must never be used as a substitute for the professional judgement of your doctor, ophthalmologist, optometrist, pharmacist, or other qualified healthcare professional.
In particular, you understand and agree that:
- Emma's information is general in nature and is not tailored to your individual medical circumstances.
- Emma does not diagnose conditions, prescribe or adjust medication, or recommend specific treatment for you personally.
- You should always follow the instructions of your own eye-care team, including how and when to use your eye drops. Where Emma's general information appears to differ from your clinician's instructions, your clinician's instructions always take priority.
- You should never disregard, delay, or stop seeking professional medical advice because of something you have read or heard in Emma.
- No doctor–patient or other professional–client relationship is created between you and R-Tej by your use of the app.
While Emma draws its information from reputable public sources (such as the NHS and the US National Eye Institute) and is designed to answer carefully, we cannot guarantee that every answer is complete, current, or applicable to your situation. Always verify important health decisions with a qualified professional.
3. In an emergency
4. Not a medical device
Emma is a general wellness and information tool. It is not intended to be, and has not been certified or approved as, a medical device under the UK Medical Devices Regulations, the EU Medical Device Regulation, or any equivalent regime. Emma is not intended to diagnose, cure, mitigate, treat, or prevent any disease or condition.
5. Who can use Emma
Emma is intended for adults aged 18 or over. By using the app, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) and are capable of entering into a binding agreement. Emma is not directed at, and should not be used by, children.
6. Your device and your data
Emma is designed to run on your own device, and your health information stays on that device — see our Privacy Policy for the full detail. You are responsible for:
- keeping your device and its security features (passcode, Face ID / Touch ID) secure;
- the accuracy of the information you choose to record in your Journey Log; and
- backing up your data if you wish to keep it — for example, by enabling the optional iCloud backup. If you uninstall the app without a backup, your on-device data is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered by us, because we never had it.
Emma does not require you to create an account or provide personal details to us.
7. Subscription, free trial and billing
Emma is offered as a paid subscription with a free trial. The headline price is £20 per year in the United Kingdom; the price in your country is shown to you by your app store before you purchase and is set by Apple's or Google's regional pricing.
- Free trial: new subscribers may start with a 3-day free trial. If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your subscription begins automatically and the subscription fee is charged.
- Auto-renewal: the subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Managing & cancelling: you manage, cancel, or turn off auto-renewal through your app store account settings (Apple ID or Google account) — not through R-Tej. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period already paid for.
- Payments & refunds: all payments are processed by the app store, not by R-Tej. We never see your card or bank details. Refunds are handled under the app store's policies; we do not directly process payments or refunds.
- Your statutory rights: nothing in these Terms removes any non-waivable consumer rights you have under the law of your country.
8. Acceptable use
You agree to use Emma only for lawful, personal, non-commercial purposes, and not to:
- copy, modify, reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the app's source code or AI models, except to the extent this restriction is prohibited by law;
- resell, redistribute, sublicense, or commercially exploit the app or its content;
- use the app in any way that breaches any applicable law or regulation, or that could damage, disable, or impair the app;
- rely on the app as a substitute for professional medical care (see Section 2).
9. Intellectual property
The app, its design, the "Emma" name and branding, the curated knowledge base, and all related content (excluding third-party content such as the coaching videos and the underlying open-source and licensed components) are owned by R-Tej or its licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own personal use, in accordance with these Terms. No other rights are granted.
Emma's health information is drawn from public-domain and government sources, which remain the property of their respective owners.
10. Third-party services and content
Emma uses or links to certain third-party services, each governed by its own terms and privacy policy:
- Coaching videos are hosted on YouTube (Google LLC). Playing a video connects your device to Google. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Optional iCloud backup is provided by Apple Inc. under Apple's iCloud terms.
- App distribution and payment are provided by Apple's App Store and Google Play under their respective terms.
We are not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of these third parties.
11. Disclaimers
Emma is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, R-Tej makes no warranties or representations, express or implied, about the app — including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that its information is complete, accurate, or suitable for your particular circumstances.
This Section does not exclude or limit any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including your non-waivable rights as a consumer.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, R-Tej and its directors, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) Emma.
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law. Because Emma does not provide medical advice and is not a substitute for professional care (Section 2), you remain responsible for decisions about your health, made together with your healthcare professionals.
13. Changes to the app and these Terms
We may update the app and these Terms from time to time — for example, to add features, reflect changes in the law, or improve clarity. When we make a material change to these Terms, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the app. Your continued use of Emma after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
We may also modify, suspend, or discontinue the app (or any part of it) at any time, although we will give reasonable notice where we can.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms, and any dispute arising out of or in connection with them or your use of Emma, are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you are a consumer resident in the United Kingdom or the European Union, you benefit from any mandatory consumer-protection provisions of the law of the country in which you live, and you may bring proceedings in your local courts. Otherwise, the courts of England and Wales will have non-exclusive jurisdiction.
